Academy of the Holy Names will be hosting the annual Network of Holy Names Schools from October 22 to 24. Presidents, principals, and other representatives from across the country and Canada will gather to discuss our common mission and share strategies for guiding our institutions. Principal Taranto and I are looking forward to this visit from our well-known friends.
We will also be hosting guest speakers Dr. Linda LeMura, President of LeMoyne College, and Christine Caputo-Granich ’86, Associate General Counsel of the New York State Law Enforcement Officers Union.
The Holy Names schools have a long and proud history of educating young women, reaching back to the foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, Mother Marie Rose Durocher. In the 19th century, 12 Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary made the perilous journey from Canada south to Florida and around Cape Horn to establish a school in Oregon. Eventually, they established girls’ schools along the East and West Coasts.
Next week, the leaders of these schools in Florida, California, Oregon, Washington State, and Manitoba make a less arduous journey to Albany, where they will be greeted with the hospitality that is a core value of the Sisters and of Academy of the Holy Names. We look forward to their visit and the conversations that will take place among friends.
