ALBANY, NY – Morgan Brewer, a senior at Academy of the Holy Names, has been named as one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2025 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

Morgan, who competes in basketball, soccer, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets will be available later this month.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes will be recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. More information is provided at the website: cdswoy.com.

Academically, Morgan received the Capital Zone NYS ASHPERD High School Senior Leadership Award. She is an AP Scholar and member of the National Honor Society. Morgan received the Rensselaer Medal and is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. From the West Point Summer Leaders Experience, she received a Leadership & Ethics/SCPME Workshop Certificate of Excellence. Morgan was an ROTC Scholarship winner for four years and also received the National NROTC Scholarship.

Athletically, in soccer Morgan won the Coaches Award and was named 2nd Team Colonial Council last fall. In basketball, Morgan was a Colonial Council Top Scholar Athlete and a 3rd Team All-Conference selection this past season, as well as earning the Girls Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award. Morgan was the AHN Most Improved Player Award in track as a member of numerous relay teams that finished in the top four in Section 2 and in state qualifiers.

Morgan’s community service includes organizing a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center and working with Action & Advocacy. She also served the Fruit Within Our Spirit and Things of my Very Own organizations while recording 61 hours of community service during her scholastic career.

Morgan becomes the first Academy of the Holy Names student-athlete selected by CDSWOY.

A total of 10 high school and three college female student-athletes will be honored at the August 4 event. The next recipient will be announced on June 23.
