Growing up I was surrounded by different languages and cultures. It is important to stay connected to both. Here are some fun and easy ways to keep up with your target language and cultural awareness over the summer:

Reading & Writing (Great for Advanced Learners)

  • Read in the Language: Choose books in the target language or bilingual stories. Many apps offer built-in reading tools.
  • Journal: Write daily or weekly entries about your summer activities in the target language.

Listening & Watching

  • TV & Movies: Watch shows or movies in the language (with or without subtitles). Try re-watching a favorite movie in the target language with family!
  • Music & Podcasts: Listen to songs, podcasts, or audiobooks in the language.

Speaking & Interaction

  • Talk to Yourself: Narrate your day or describe what you’re doing.
  • Use AI Tools: Practice with virtual assistants or language chatbots.

Explore Language Through Culture

  • Apps: Use Duolingo, Babbel, Rosetta Stone, etc., for daily practice.
  • Festivals & Events: Attend cultural events or explore local places where the language is spoken.
  • Cooking: Try making recipes from the target culture.
  • Games: Play online games that involve language learning.
  • Outings: Turn trips into language-learning adventures—label items or use new vocabulary on the go!

Stay curious, stay consistent, and most importantly—have fun! Even a little language practice each day can make a big difference. ¡Feliz verano! / Bon été! / Καλό καλοκαίρι! / Happy summer!
